One-stop culinary emporium Sur La Table recently joined the Phipps Plaza family so that you can get cookin’. The 6,000-square-foot space is equipped with the essentials—from ingredients and appliances, to cookware and tabletop décor. Anchoring this roster is a state-of-the-art demo kitchen for cooking classes, like Italy on the Grill, Sushi 101 and Warm and Breezy Caribbean Cooking. Also turning up the heat is a slate of Date Night classes—Sizzling Summer Fiesta and Sultry Summer Steakhouse sound pretty damn delicious. Fully mic’d Resident Chef Kyle Shankman—a grad of Le Cordon Bleu culinary school and former executive chef at The Ritz-Carlton, Atlanta—leads classes with, ahem, all the passion and chops you can handle (hopefully that’s a boatload), while mirrored panels on the ceiling and a flat-screen TV provide 360-degree views of the slicing and dicing.
Don’t expect to just sample the goods, though—get down and dirty making your own. JEZ sat for an Italian cooking class through four delicious courses (pan-roasted chicory with pear salad; warm polenta with grilled portobello and Treviso; Italian meatloaf; and grapefruit and honey cake).
