Arriving Now: Crosby Street Hotel

Crosby1 Hoteliers Tim and Kit Kemp have landed this side of the Pond with their brand-new Crosby Street Hotel, which sits on a dreamy cobbled street in Manhattan's hip SoHo district. Kit Kemp once again takes design duties, utilizing pretty colors and patterns in an inviting mix of modern and classic style to create delightful sweeping ceilings while wall-length windows allow for an abundance of space and light. Arriving Now: Momentum 14 at the Institute of Contemporary Art/Boston

Momentum14 It wasn't enough that Rodney McMillian had some deep thoughts about society and how it connects to the past. He had to put it to art. Now you can see his interpretation in his first U.S. solo exhibit, Momentum 14: Rodney McMillian, which just launched at the Institute of Contemporary Art/Boston. Although he was born in Columbia, South Carolina, McMillian lives predominantly in L.A. (If you haven't heard of him, perhaps you've seen him make his mark at the Whitney in New York and the Rubell Collection in Miami.) Based on the theme of his art, the City of Angels is an ideal place for inspiration; McMillian's work addresses race, identity and commerce in contemporary American society through multimedia pieces that combine painting, photographs and even cast-off furniture to reveal how past ideas relate to the present. Exhibit runs through November 1. icaboston.org.

Arriving Now: The Acropolis Museum

Acropolis Homer. Plato. Socrates. You followed their odysseys in high school. Now get lost in ancient civilization at Greece's newly opened Acropolis Museum. This mammoth cultural endeavor, created by French-Swiss architect Bernard Tsuchumi, brings 150,000 square feet of exhibition space to the country's historic district of Makryianni. Collections that have been dispersed for centuries are unified here to showcase prehistoric life on the Acropolis (up until late antiquity). It's also just a stellar building—a veritable monolith of glass, steel, marble and concrete where natural light swaths statues of gods and political figures, plus temple pediments, cooking pots, perfume containers, ancient jewelry boxes and toys. The on-site restaurant boasts panoramic views of the actual Acropolis and the historic hills of Athens. Time travel for one euro? Missing out would be a tragedy. theacropolismuseum.gr/eng.

Arriving Now: The Vionnet Exhibit at Les Arts Décoratifs

Vionnet What do Cristóbal Balenciaga, Azzedine Alaïa and Yohji Yamamoto have in common? Besides being great designers, they were all heavily influenced by Madeleine Vionnet. See why they call her the couturier's couturier at Paris museum Les Arts Décoratifs' new exhibit in Paris, which showcases Vionnet's designs from 1912 through 1939 and promises to be a revelation for fashion hounds. A little background: Vionnet was one of the first female designers to bring couture into the 20th century. Some of her other firsts were working on the bias, along with creating the one-seam dress—often copied (but never duplicated) by top designers of her time. The show, curated by Pamela Goblin, took nearly two years to put together and includes 125 dresses (in luxe fabrics like crepe de chine and silk tulle), 750 patterns and an astonishing 13,000 photos, all of which the designer generously donated to the museum. And as if all that weren't enough to put Vionnet back in the fashion spotlight, her house is also on the comeback trail, with former Prada designer Rodolfo Paglialunga poised to resuscitate the Vionnet brand, beginning with a show at Paris fashion week in October. Exhibit runs through January 31. lesartsdecoratifs.fr.
