New Orleans is still on the mend after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, but like the legendary phoenix, aspects of the glorious city are rising from the ashes in spectacular fashion. Formerly the Fairmount Hotel, the building was closed until this past July after undergoing a lavish $145-million restoration. To celebrate the hotel's official opening, a grand celebration is slated for the weekend of October 23–25, complete with music from the Neville Brothers as well as singer Irma Thomas.
